In November, we hosted a special dinner celebrating one of our favorite estates – Ch. Belle-Brise. This tiny Pomerol property is almost like an enclave of Burgundian philosophy on Bordeaux’s Right Bank and we explored its remarkable, elegant wines via an incredible vertical.

Tucked away in Pomerol’s southwest corner, Ch. Belle-Brise is the ultimate insider’s Bordeaux. With just two hectares of walled garden vineyard, production at this estate is minuscule, making it one of the rarest wines in the marketplace (and arguably more exclusive than either Pétrus or Le Pin). Although wine has been made here since the 18th century, it’s only from 1991 that it was released commercially – after Henri-Bruno de Coincy bought the estate. Stylistically, this artisan Pomerol is silky and opulent, but with a finesse and almost weightless power more akin to Grand Cru Burgundy.

During this remarkable 11-course meal at the highly acclaimed three-Michelin-star SingleThread Restaurant & Inn, we tasted 23 vintages from the estate back to 1993 – one of the earliest made for commercial release.

The menu, designed by husband-and-wife team Kyle and Katina Connaughton who revolutionised Japanese cuisine with their unique approach and sustainable gastronomy earning three stars within three years of opening SingleThread, expertly complemented the extraordinary wines on show.

We will be publishing an article about this extraordinary evening that offered a unique opportunity to explore this very special Pomerol address soon.
